Split Seconds Chronograph

Definition

What is a Split Seconds Chronograph in Watches?

A split seconds chronograph, also known as a rattrapante or double chronograph, is a sophisticated complication found in some high-end chronograph watches. It allows wearers to measure two separate intervals of time simultaneously, making it ideal for timing events with multiple components or laps.

How it Works: In a split seconds chronograph, the watch features two separate chronograph hands, one stacked on top of the other. The top hand, or split-seconds hand, can be stopped independently of the bottom hand to record intermediate times while the lower hand continues to run. Pressing the split-seconds pusher stops the split-seconds hand, and pressing it again allows it to catch up and synchronize with the main chronograph hand.
